If you’re new to business blog, it must be a little overwhelming since you have to start it up from scratch (in most of the cases) and there are a lot of features that you may want to try. Also, of course you want people’s attention to your business, as long as you spend so much time and effort. Now, there are some tips you should know before even beginning to build your business blog.
1. Write “scannable” posts
Unlike newspaper or novels, people don’t read blog posts thoroughly until they got interested in it. According to the latest research on blogging, the average time people spend reading a blog post is only 37 seconds.
Some say it’s important to keep a blog post short and concise, but the successful business blog posts can be over 2000 words. Of course, it doesn’t mean the longer you write, the more traffic you can get. The important part for both commercial and personal blog is to make it scannable.
These are some tactics to improve your blog posts.
- Showing index in the beginning of the post with internal links – lets readers to jump right into where they want to read
- Make a good use of larger fonts and highlighted texts – to organize the post’s layout and give some parts importance
- Use proper pictures – makes it easy to understand contents visually
- Provide hyperlinks – to external website which it is likely for reader to need
2. Make the blog user friendly
No matter how great your posts and writing are, the audience might lose their interest in your blog very quickly if your blog does not have helpful features to help them to look for what they want. In order to make newcomers regular readers, you have to improve your blogs’ functionality, not only your posts.
Here is some example of features which improve your blog:
- Clear and attractive menu bar – guide your readers to your business website
- Search window – also make sure your search results are relevant enough to browse your blog
- Contact page or Chatbot – keep eye on the question that your readers casts and solve their problem as soon as possible to get satisfaction on your blog
- Easy subscription button – it is pretty important since you want people to come back to your blog
- Make sure your website is not slow – the loading time dramatically affects the bounce rate.
As soon as the page load time surpasses 3 seconds, the bounce rate soars, to 38% by the time it hits 5 seconds!Solarwinds pingdom, “Does Page Load Time Really Affect Bounce Rate?” https://www.pingdom.com/blog/page-load-time-really-affect-bounce-rate/
3. Provide useful information for readers
Let’s face it. Unless your business is extraordinarily remarkable, no one would want to visit the company blog. Since business blogging’s main purpose is getting more traffic to your business, it’s a good idea to focus on teaching and giving some valuable knowledge to the audience. The audience is your potential customer. For example, if you’re running a clothes business, “How to Reduce Laundry Wrinkles” or “How to tie a tie” might be good examples. By making the blog posts relevant to the audience, it will be much more likely to be found on the search engine.
4. Be aware of Copyrights
There are over 600 million blogs on the internet. You can easily find so many blogs which use images or videos without permission. However, it doesn’t mean you can also violate copyrights just because other people do. In fact, especially if you’re writing blogs for business, you have to be really careful about this. It is natural for people to doubt your business itself if your blog obviously violates the law. In order to make your blog 100% trustworthy, why don’t you use the following websites for copyright and royalty-free images?
Unsplash is one of the most famous copyrights free image websites globally. They have its own license which allows you to use the picture for both commercial and non-commercial purposes. It is very helpful since you don’t have to sign up or spend money.
Burst is another website that you can use for browning nice featured pictures. Since it is run by Shopify.com, which is the largest e-commerce platform, there are so many suitable pictures for many industries. Besides, I found the search result is relatively more relevant than the others. Burst also have own license, so as you can use their image for both commerce and non-commercial purpose.
Canva is mainly used for creating the contents or posts, but it also have tons of stock images. The coolest part of Canva is that you can edit their stock images in any way you want on Canva. You can change the color, move and reshape, even remove the background with premium membership.
