Great Steps to Take for Success
Before learning the best steps for success, let’s take a moment to mention what recycling is…
Recycling is the process of gathering and processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products. Recycling can benefit your community, economy, and the environment.

Benefits of Recycling
- Reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and incinerators
- Increases economic security by tapping a domestic source of materials
- Prevents pollution by reducing the need to collect new raw materials
- Saves energy
- Supports a county’s manufacturing and conserves valuable resources
- Helps create jobs in the recycling and manufacturing industries in the world
- Conserves natural resources such as timber, water and minerals
After mentioning what recycling is and its benefits we can now start with the steps.
- Start with education
One Nelson Mandela says: “ Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”
One of the most important elements to spread the awareness of recycling to society is education. Awareness raising and accurate information are the most important steps of recovery. Recently, recycling has been included in education programs. The contributions of recycling to the future of the world were included in these programs under the title of environmental awareness. Another issue that will affect the success of recycling as much as education is the economy.
- Analyze the economy
An economy is the large set of interrelated production, consumption, and exchange activities that aid in determining how scarce resources are allocated. The production, consumption, and distribution of goods and services are used to fulfill the needs of those living and operating within the economy, which is also referred to as an economic system.
When we look at the countries( South Korea, Germany, America, France) that have been doing recycling activities, they are really good countries in the world. They have good living standards, their inflation is not too much, their people’s purchasing power is high, etc. As you can see here, there is a relationship between recycling and a country’s economic level.
On the other hand, when we look at the other countries, they don’t have those kinds of characteristics. These countries have other important issues to deal with. For example, high inflation, scarcity of meals, social problems, etc. However, that does not exactly mean that these poor countries can not do recycling activities. They can….the thing is that they have to work, sacrifice and deal with their basic problems.
- Changes in Government Policy
The second point is that the real functioning of the recycling process will only be possible if the issue becomes a state policy. Moreover, the government-supported zero waste project has been implemented in our country recently and positive developments have been experienced on the subject.
The first step in the recycling process should be to reduce waste. After this is achieved, it continues with the separation of the wastes at the source and their collection by the local administrations and conveyed to the recycling facilities. Using separate bins for each recyclable material speeds up and simplifies the recycling process.
Recycling works on a win-win principle. Thanks to recycling, resources are used more efficiently and less energy, less water is consumed during the production phase, fewer trees are cut and fewer carbon emissions are realized. To explain with an example; With the re-incorporation of used paper into the paper manufacturing process, air pollution is reduced by 74-94%, water pollution by 35%, and water use by 45%.
