Posted on August 4, 2021August 4, 2021

What Does Your Art Mean to You?

Art is everywhere, even if you may not realize it. The buildings we pass by, the sunsets in the sky, the clothes we wear are all art–it’s all based on your perception. What does art mean to you?

What is Your Mission Statement?

Have a mission statement and vision in mind. This allows you to not only show to your customers that you have a clear vision, but allows you to set clear goals for you and your business.

What Do You Need to be Successful?

Define/Identify your goals

Setting a clear set of goals allows you to set milestones each step of the way.

Short- Term Goals:

  • Within three months, I want to have sold 5 paintings.
  • Within four months, I want to have at least 300 followers on Instagram.

Long-Term Goals

  • Within 10 months, I want to have sold 8 paintings.
  • Within 8 months, I want to have at least 800 followers on Instagram.
These five aspects allow you to clearly define goals

Start somewhere. Simply making an Instagram account tailored specifically for your art can make the biggest difference, for now, you have reached a global audience.

Additionally, use Google My Business and Google Analytics to help you get started.

Here is helpful video that shows you a step-by-step process on how to set up Google My Business and use it effectively…

Who is your target market?

Find out who wants to buy your art on a local, national, and international scale.

Understanding your own art, will allow to attract a target market that understands your art as well.

Important questions to ask yourself…

Who is your competition?

Who is buying/selling art?

Who do you want your audience to be?

What type of spaces do you want your work to be seen in?

Do you know your market place?

Exhibition spaces – Public art galleries, museums, libraries, open submission competitions, etc.

Commercial gallery spaces – These can range from local framing galleries up to international galleries.

Direct access spaces – Anywhere people can come to you directly to see your work, such as your studio, art fairs, your website.

How Digital Marketing Can Help Artists?

At the same time, digital marketing is able to help artists as well. As an artist, you need to ask yourself how you can share your artwork with a larger audience.

Anne Carton states in her blog, “Artists are generally not known for their marketing skills. They are creative people who look for innovative ideas rather than ways of taking out art to the masses. But in today’s competitive art world, artists can financially survive only by actively promoting their artworks. Fortunately, they have quick access to digital marketing that they can explore to their advantage”.

Digital marketing allows for artists to share their art with a more global audience in a more efficient and effective means.

Additionally, digital marketing is cost-effective. Most digital marketing channels are free of cost and simply require an internet connection.

With a simple click of a button, your art can reach a bigger audience all around the world.

Digital marketing encompasses using online media channels and digital technologies to promote a product or service. Digital marketing is very versatile, and there are various certifications one can pursue in the digital marketing realm.

Art can help in the digital marketing process, and in turn, digital marketing can help artists.
