Want to make YOUR mark in the digital marketing world? I am a small business owner, a piercing business; that started peak COVID. It was crazy to do that, right? Also, completely new to the game, I thought, how am I meant to get my name out there when I can’t even go outside? Naturally, I took online, getting a few clients here & there, but consistently managing it was something I had to learn. Moreover, there was more I had to do more, I was losing clients which resulted in me losing my income; luckily I’ve been granted the opportunity to learn more in the digital marketing world.
However, to an extent, this saved my business. After research, blood (literally), sweat & tears poured into this small business. I have created a strategy that helped my small business flourish again.
Instinctively, I went to the apps I use most – Instagram (of course) & Facebook. Which you can do too, I mean, it’s free! Instantly, I created a new page for my new brand & began promoting. The reason why I focused on social media marketing & mainly Instagram, is because they are easily accessible platforms that can connect me with my target audience (https://zigma.ca/services/social-media-optimization/ ).
Furthermore, it is incredibly easy to create a business account on Instagram, also helping you gather your daily insights & analytics – helping you track your progress! Luckily, Facebook does this for you too.

- It ensures better customer satisfaction
- It improves brand loyalty

You’ve created your profile, great! Now let’s focus on another strategy – content marketing.

With the knowledge know how to make my brand better for my clients, plus I am gaining a lot more exposure! Furthermore, I chose content marketing for B PIERCED because I wanted my audience to be a part of my piercing journey with me.(https://www.digitalmarketing.org/).
As I said earlier, I was so new to this game & I am still (kind of). I felt as though content creation could cause a positive reaction within my audience. Creatively showing them what they want to see & they can trust me when it comes to the service I am providing for them.

- Show your product or service & share customer testimonials
Therefore, all of these ideas will show your followers that you’re a small business with BIG plans!

Next, I’m sure you know affiliate marketing, people promote another brand for commission or other benefits. Firstly, Youtubers use this line a lot “use my discount code at check out!”. Secondly, as silly as it sounds at times, this works. Thirdly, Below is an example of an affiliate group a friend & I made for B PIERCED. Also you’re probably thinking “Kallen, I’m a small business I can’t afford to generate commission for affiliates” & you’re correct, generating a budgeted commission is incredibly taxing on a small business. However, use your business as a form of payment!
Likewise, I can’t financially afford to keep my warriors consistently posting for me. So, what I have done to thank them & as a form of payment – give them a free piercing of course! If you find affiliates (being friends, friends of friends, anyone) who will be willing to receive a free piercing, a discount on your products or any other form of “payment” that doesn’t affect your small business finances, then do it!
On the other hand, this is a bit of a catch 22 for me, you don’t want to constantly rebrand a business as it can cause some chaos & you could lose a few customers, so if you want to rebrand, timing is crucial! B PIERCED for instance, I started off with a very dark, standard piercing artist stereotype – still yet, you know, using a lot of black, chains, skulls, spiders. I hope you get the idea, it was a bit alternative, but it worked only for a short while.

In addition, this was an aesthetic that didn’t stick. I lost the consistency of it & I noticed that it didn’t reflect my biggest brand goal – decorating bodies. To me, piercings are a form of self-love, needle therapy, a declaration to your beautiful body. I wanted to empower my clients & boost their confidence with my work. So I decided to scrap all that I had before & I rebranded B PIERCED.

Lastly, Want to know something wonderful? I created this entire business completely on my phone. Introducing mobile marketing! This form is filled with many methods that can so easily slip into your daily routine, that can further build your traffic, create brand awareness – therefore resulting in clients!
Reasons why I use mobile marketing:

- It is more affordable
- It is easier to connect with existing and future clients
As someone who loves my phone, I highly recommend using this form of marketing as it has proved to be one of the most helpful tools throughout this experience.
